Rick Warner

Coastal II founder and veteran innovator of profitable, efficient, and resilient businesses, draws on extensive knowledge from multiple industries and leadership roles. As a business development leader in the broadest sense of the word, Rick has guided new businesses and products to market for over 40 years. Successfully operating as an entrepreneur in both established corporate environments and lean start-up environments, Rick’s business development expertise has been brought to bear in the aerospace, transportation, marine, renewable energy, applied industrial materials, and the wireless internet fields. Rick has served on several National Academy of Science Research Board committees.

He focuses his skills on bringing sustainable value to users of technology. He’s a 2000 ComputerWorld Smithsonian Laureate and is a 2008 Lawrence Tech innovator of the year nominee. The prestigious Smithsonian award was for architecting Action Engine’s consumer-oriented mobile-services platform. Rick has experience negotiating multi-million dollar contracts, managing global teams of diverse people, initiating new corporate ventures through diversification, raising venture capital, plus deploying the Department of Commerce and Transportation funding to enable the use of new technology.

Rick received his M.B.A. from the University of Washington in Seattle. As an undergrad at Michigan State University, Rick explored classes in International economic and marine science before focusing his studies on business finance with an emphasis in transportation logistics and computer science. When Rick is not passionately pulling new products to market, he spends his spare time and energy on his other passions: the resilient expansion of coastal resources, competitively sailing and enjoying the world’s vast waterways. Rick holds his U.S.C.G. Captain’s License and several world records. He and his team are currently sailing out of the Great lakes and on the Eastern Caribbean as they quest other world records.
